Tom O’Connor is a nationally recognized expert on high performance service management. Tom formed Farmington Consulting Group (FCG) in 1982 with the objective to help general and subcontractors develop profitable growth strategies. Contracting is a high risk business faced with shifting markets, changing delivery methods, tough competition, and challenges that threaten already low profit margins. Tom has helped contractors eliminate waste and grow their revenues through developing and implementing improved estimating systems, buy-out strategies, job cost control systems, and project management and field supervision.
In 1990, Tom expanded FCG’s consulting practice to additionally serve distributors, manufacturers’ representatives, and manufacturers. Distributors are faced with an ever-changing, competitive environment that requires constant analysis of marketing, sales, purchasing, and distribution effectiveness. As markets change, distributors and manufacturers must rethink their strategies to grow profitable sales and eliminate waste in their operations. Tom has provided value to leading industry distributors, manufacturers’ representatives, and manufacturers through executing market research and implementing improved strategy development, sales & marketing management, sourcing strategies and inventory management, financial management, and organization development and performance management.
Tom O’Connor is also a contributing writer to Electrical Wholesaling magazine, has given numerous keynote speeches at NAED annual meetings, IMARK Showcase, Equity annual meetings, NEMRA Conference, and has served as a strategy instructor at the University of Electrical Distribution. Additionally, FCG is the IMARK Member Service Provider (MSP) for customer satisfaction studies, focus groups, and customer advisory councils.
